Fortunate Son (18+)

A film about faith, despair, renewal, and the different kinds of love in a family.

In this autobiographical documentary, filmmaker Tony Asimakopoulos - the son of Greek immigrants living in Canada, and a recovering drug user - turns his gaze on a complicated, painful relationship with his ageing parents and the patterns of dysfunction they share.

After falling into a deep hole of drug abuse that nearly destroyed him, Tony remained isolated from his family for years until a search for happiness with his fiancée, Natalie, motivated him to use his camera as a psychological probe and tool for healing.

As he navigates the sharp edge between his old and new relationships, a picture emerges of a family coming to terms with itself. They are all put to the test when a serious illness strikes in the months leading up to Tony and Natalie's wedding...
