Mona Lisa is Sotiris Dounoukos’ graduating film from the Victorian College of the Arts, and winner of Best Student Production at the 53rd Melbourne International Film Festival.

Over a single night in their suburban home, widow Helen and her only child, George (aged 34), play out a volatile family ritual as they struggle with the intensity and intimacy of their co-dependent lives.

About the Director:

Born in Sydney and raised in Canberra, Sotiris Dounoukos attended the Australian National University, followed by the New York Film Academy and then the Film and Television School of the Victorian College of the Arts. His short films include Paper and Sand (2007), which also screens at this festival, Traces (2003) and Dante in the Park (1998). He’s currently developing two feature films.
