From his earliest childhood memories, Andreas ran.
Marathon is a story about a man who is caught in an emotional deadlock. He
cannot, it seems, either start or finish the many relationships he enters
throughout his life. Instead, he runs from one woman to the other and from
one crisis to the next. Stop watches and women. Set against the frantic
lead up to the Athens Olympic Games, with a city in its own race, trying
to meet the opening ceremony deadline, Andreas is training one of the
local hopefuls for the marathon. His obsession with time is equalled only
by his obsession with women: as his sexy psychiatrist opines, “He is
obsessed with time because he is afraid of death and women.” He is a man
caught up in a battle - attracted by women yet afraid of committing to
them. His story cleverly unfolds through the interactions of the women in
his life: their desires, their hopes and their aspirations. The story
follows the many insights of his girlfriends and the way in which he
relates to their observations. This exposes a complex personality and
sheds light on the ultimate emptiness attached to the thrill of the chase.
