With the world's attention on the Athens Olympics and all things Greek, the Greek Film Festival Association of Canberra and Electric Shadows Cinemas are proud to present Canberra's 2nd Greek Film Festival. An eclectic celebration of contemporary Greek cinema, the Greek Film Festival is a national event being presented in cinemas around Australia by Palace Cinemas and Greek communities across the country.

The Festival has been attracting cinema buffs in other cities for 12 years and since the formation of the Greek Film Festival Association of Canberra in 2003, Canberra is now part of the festivities.

Canberra's 2nd Greek Film Festival opens with a bang!

Following a highly successful premier last year, the Canberra Greek Film Festival promises to capture audiences again with another outstanding line-up of films.

The 2004 Festival kicks off on Thursday 16 September with a spectacular opening night event. Acclaimed actor/director/producer, Lex Marinos, will officially open the festival followed by a screening of the bittersweet epic, A Touch of Spice (courtesy of Roadshow Films). One of the most successful Greek movies ever made, A Touch of Spice tells the story of a young Greek boy growing up in Istanbul (formerly Constantinople) whose grandfather teaches him that both food and life need a little bit of spice to give them flavour.

The film screening will be followed by a cocktail party at Babars Restaurant and Café, featuring live entertainment by Jammn, a world music band with eastern influences. Other festival highlights include the timeless Never on Sunday featuring Melina Mercouri in her most memorable on-screen role, and the award winning political thriller Z.

Tickets available at Electric Shadows Cinemas (6247 5060) and the Hellenic Club of Canberra (6281 0899). more >>
