2002 Film Festival

A GREEK ORTHODOX COMMUNITY OF NSW EVENT (www.goc.com.au)

The Greek Film Festival of Sydney welcomes you to its annual showcase of contemporary Greek cinema. Our aim is to present audiences with the finest and most exciting productions reflecting Greek culture and exemplifying the continued development of young Greek filmmakers.

This year we are delighted to present Hard Goodbyes: My Father, which has been a major success in international film festivals including Locarno and Toronto. Likewise Think it Over represents the new guard of Greek cinema and has been selected as the Greek entry for next year's Oscars. Additionally, we continue the documentary strand with a number of films focusing on contemporary issues such as the plight of refugees and cross-cultural interactions.

As a special closing night event we have been able to produce from the archives of 20th Century Fox a brand new 35mm print of Michael Cacoyannis' Academy Award winning classic, Zorba the Greek which, in its 40th Anniversary, has been secured especially for the Greek Film Festival of Sydney. Zorba has not graced our cinema screens for over 25 years and we are indeed proud to be able to present this classic to you as part of our festival.
