A portrait of Markos Vamvakaris (1905-1972), one of the great creators of rembetiko music in its heyday (1932-1940) before it broadened its appeal. The rembetiko, much like the American blues, was not simply a musical genre but a way of life for the 'rembetes' who had their own codes of honour. The film contains rare footage, sound tracks and personal accounts that shed light on Vamvakaris's life and music.
